I was searching for the comet Pan Starrs on the evening that I shot this. There was no comet to be found with binoculars. About 30 minutes after sunset, I noticed the heron and decided to see if I could get a shot of the heron with the moon above him with the fading glow of sunset.
When I opened the image on the computer, I noticed that I had indeed captured the comet. It's almost straight below the moon, and about 2/3 down to the horizon.
When I saw it in this shot, I knew that this was the one for the Shez tribute.
It was interesting that the heron remained perfectly motionless for the 15sec exposure. There is another bird to it's right and a little gator in the foreground. Curiously, due to camera motion or some cloud action, the moon turned into a yen & yang symbol.
I miss my DPC friend, but it would be selfish to wish her back from where she is now, at peace, and in total comfort.
