The Pest Hunter
I positioned myself between the camera and the backdrop and used the Remote Controller to take the image.
This was the first time that I had used the Remote Controller on my brand new camera.
I flipped the Vari-Angle LCD Monitor around so that I could see what I was doing with framing and picture composition. Without my glasses, the screen was slightly blurred, but I could still frame satisfactorily.
I let the AF focus on my face without the spray can in shot. Once I activated the Remote Controller, I had 2 seconds to bring the spray can into frame and manifest the facial expression.
I had to make sure that the expression depicted the act of hunting. I'm not sure how successful I was with this, but that was my aim. I didn't want to be seen as just holding the spray can, like a product advertisement. I wanted the image to look as though I was about to seriously pounce on an insect with the spray.
This was an exterior shot.
I used one side of the garage as the backdrop and framed this first. It was about 4 metres from the camera. I set the ISO at 100 to keep away the background noise, and set the lens at 55mm to minimise DOF.
The key light was the sun, high in the sky but slightly behind the subject. The day was overcast and the key light was the diffused sunlight.
The fill light was the camera flash unit.
I, as the subject, was about a half a metre away from the lens, and had set the shutter speed to 1/200 seconds.
This is my second submission and any help would be appreciated.
