This is a great result Herman! You got some fabulous comments from some admirable photographers. I'm not as eloquent as Paul but he summed it up for me.

Everyone is happily singing except the girl up the top left, incredible capture, bumping to a 10, and you are the only recipient of my verineat this month in the FS |

This is a wonderful capture. There's so much going on, lots of interaction, so many little stories in those faces. This should definately be in the top 10 at least! |

At first I saw the girl in the front row looking to the side and thought the title was talking about her. Then I saw the girl in the second row on the right and thought ohhhh maybe it's her. Then I spotted the girl in the upper left who is not singing and looks like she has a bit of stage fright and realize the title could be about any one of the girls in the picture. What a great moment you captured. |

Voted earlier coming back to comment.
The B&W tones are fabulous. It captures the action of the girl's singing quite well, but it seems too distant and at first glance there seems nothing more to the picture. Those who choose to linger will spot an interesting counterpoint to the joyful singing in the sullen girl in the top left. As I mentioned before that it seemed distant - it is because I think you need to bring us closer to the 'action' - draw us in closer to the element of the story you wish to tell. Here it gets lost in a sea of girls. A closer crop and a square crop will bring the viewer in for a closer more personal look and feel. |

This is a new comment series for me, so please bear with me while I find my style!
(Voted earlier)
This is one of my 9s - I like it a lot. Furthermore I think it enriches the DPC collective portfolio. Put simply, I wish we saw more stuff like this. Let me tell you why it pushes all the right buttons for me:
1. I like purposeful choices in photographs - it's clear you've chosen this high contrast style and it suits the image wonderfully week - makes it really.
2. I like to see people in images (mainly) - there are plenty of characters to look at here; and in your composition, all individuals but nonetheless together in common purpose.
3. I like how you've cropped it, not minding if your crop people - it creates a sense of a wider group and mimics the way our eye is naturally selective in its gaze - we are aware of others but aren't looking at them.
Overall, this is a great image - made so by your photographic choices. We see what you have brought to the photographic table. Excellent. |
