Yeah, me again, along with a tap borrowed from the local salvage yard stuck into the bark of one of my few non-sap producing trees and a few other props. Like Christophe, (gyaban), I believe in making a set as opposed to PhotoChopping in a whole whack of stuff. The signage, gas can, and money jar are all props. Only the pour has been placed in from a previous indoor shoot within the time frame.

Unlike Christophe, I lack his wacky surreal creativity and the staggering suite of editing skillz he has cultivated. So as always here is my one-shot wonder, PS'd to the best of my meagre abilities as I send it off to tilt against windmills.

I got the basic idea for this about a month ago. My oldest brother is coming to visit and offered, during his stay, to help with 'collecting syrup from the trees.' Of course I corrected him, as you collect sap then boil it down into syrup.

But his words came back to haunt me when this challenge was announced. It took a couple days for an idea to coalesce but once it did - starting with the basic faucet-in-the-tree,I decided to wear the bright orange hunter's cap, which of course is anything but inconspicuous when up to no good. A phone conversation with Ryan sparked the idea of additional props, mostly the signs, payment system and gas can. I already had the nefarious cartoony villian look down pat :-)

This is a single capture apart, from the stream of maple syrup, which I shot indoors, then PS'd more than anything else to get that flowy liquid look with realistic highlights.

Shot outdoors, camera on tripod, used self-triggered timer (my one remote is pretty much toast).

pp: shot RAW, rotate, crop, brightness/contrast, vibrance/saturation, dodge and burn, clone stuff in and out as needed, more d&b, place syrup image, warp, resize, flatten, sharpen, save for web.

This was my top pick, although I didn't believe it would make the front page. 14th seems way underrated, though.

Wonderful colors and lines, very clean image, although the forced misspellings are a bit trite
