 Week-old idea meets last-second execution (as usual).

To answer the obvious question, I used a Toys R Us smoke machine and vinyl tubing to make the smoke come out behind her ears. There are three lights on a ceiling fan directly above her head and an external flash on the camera in an otherwise dark room (the dark background is necessary to see the smoke clearly).

Processing details: cropped, levels, USM, boosted saturation a little and emphasized the red in her face. Dodged the highlights slightly on the smoke. Cloned out a piece of tubing visible behind her right ear, and a spot by her lip.

Special thanks to my little model for being so patient this late on a school night.

GOOD COMPOSITION.. FOCUS COULD BE SHARPER AND THE ON CAMERA FLASH MAKES IT LOOK TO SNAPSHOTISH... oops sorry for caps

Great idea! The flash is too strong (needs to be more evenly lit so it doesn't look so staged), but otherwise, this is fabulous.

That's too cute! Been there, done that, and watched my kids do it, too. I tend to judge high on "artsey" images, so normally I would have rated this lower, with a 5 or even 4, due to comedic content. However, I just couldn't. It really hit a cord with me - not to ignore the fact that you were so creative and probably worked very hard to set it up. Hope you do well in the challenge. :-)

Very nice and fun idea, I wish I had cute kids as models :) The lighting is pretty good, maybe put a black sheet behind her?
