Challenge: 30 Seconds or More II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Aperture: f/22
ISO: 100
Shutter: 30 sec

This is boring I know. It won't compete well with the smooth waters, cityscapes and landscapes or the star trails that will be visually beautiful. But when I saw my cats sleeping together I decided to try and see if I could get a shot with a 30 sec exposure. I had to set the aperture to the smallest amount (f/22) and 30 sec appeared to be the right length of time. This will probably add to my run of sub 5 entires lately.

There was nothing I could do to prevent the mid section of the grey cat from being blurry (a cat has to breath). This was my first shot as after the final click of the exposure they started to stir. I tried a couple of other shots but they would move slightly during the exposure. I would not be surprised to get a validation request as to shot could quite easily be taken in a fraction of a second but I have no fear of being DQ'd. Very little PP was done except for the painstaking cloning of many, many hot pixels. With such a small aperture I expected my many dust bunnies to appear but I found none. Perhaps long exposures hide them?

I really liked this cat shot and thought it was a creative subject for a 30 second exposure. There is no reason this should have ended with a sub five score.

There's an interesting yin yang at play here. Well spotted (no pun).

cute but image lacks interest beyond that.

I can believe this is a 30+ seconds exposure, but the long exposure doesn't add anything to this shot. Probably in BW would be more interesting

You can tell this is a timed exposure as the fur on the sides of the cats are slightly blurred from their breathing patterns. I'm not much for cat photos - in fact, I'm not much of a cat person period (although there are two cats in the house, but they don't belong to me - they belong to the Mrs.). But, this has a very calming quality - nothing WOW about it, just a pleasing snapshot.
