lordy - yes, the stick in the ground was used to write the letters. I did this neat little trick of taking the stick and going thru what a wrote (with the stick) to make the numbers seem clearer in the snow. I didn't use my finger because I had this last minute inspiration and had to run out to get a shot before the sun went down. So outside I went without gloves or a coat. I needed warm fingers to take the shot!

Snow is very hard to photograph correctly. All I see here is a stick laying on the ground that most likely was not used to write 2013 as the numbers are thick and precise and most likely made with a finger and gone over to make it look readable. Maybe using the tree branch in action would have worked better? 3
