I was visiting my friends in Frisco Texas after Christmas when I took this shot. My friend's wife and son went into the Kroger (grocery store)while he and I waited out in the car. I heard this Coopers Hawk before I saw it. When it landed on a light post in the parking lot I thought "why not" and took my camera with the Tamron 18-270 lens on it and started shooting. This image was one of about 4 that I took when the hawk flew from one light post to another in the parking lot. So it is a completely wild bird just doing it's thing looking for birds to eat in a grocery store parking lot. BTW I witnessed this very same thing here at home in PA not more than a few weeks ago. The images that I took with my phone were not very good quality.

I'm sorry that I didn't have enought time to catch up with my fellow DPC'ers while I was in TX but there was just so little time. I hope to see you again sometime soon.

Real good shot! My only gripe with Tamron, as it use to be with some other 3rd party lenses, is the quality control. And personally, I have indirectly and directly experienced a few lemons. This shot, however, is perfect!

Scott, as you know I'm not enamoured with massive zoom range telephotos for wildlife as they generally only have one sweet spot in FL and aperture cramping style and chances, however this is damn good for an all-in-wonder lens. Naturally camera and lens control must be the prime goal for any photographer to get the shot with whatever is in your bag and you have done that masterfully here. (What's it like in low light?)

Awesome BIF and camera/lens control. Whilst the direct sunlight made it 'easier' there is still a lot of skill involved. Hard to determine if a true wildlife shot or at a raptor centre. Nonetheless an 8.
