Day 22...the Smoky Mountains, looking SW as a storm went through.

This is only about 10-15 minutes or so from my house, so when storms roll through I can run up there to get this sort of picture and be in the wind.

They aren't the easiest mountains to photograph. They always look blue, and because they are so covered with trees, they tend to look "fluffy". Anyway, the sun was getting low and a crack in the clouds opened up and let this slice of setting sunlight through...it was magnificent. The picture just doesn't do it justice but it's still kind of pretty.

Be sure to look at the full size picture.

A lot of difference in the detail between this and the full-sized view. I have some friends in the Knoxville area with views of the Greater Smoky Mountains and I love taking pictures there. Little glimpses of Heaven.

Very nice, that strip of light makes it.

I really like that band of long wavelength light from the sunset gracing the mountains across the valley. This is a nice high perspective.

That little slice of sunlight creates the most lovely layers! What a wonderful view to "run up to" when you get the chance!

"Be sure to look at the full size picture" I second that - it's splendid, Rachel. There is so much depth and detail in that dark hills to mountains layer. And the sky is glorious.
