Gator party, Ft Lauderdale Winterfest Boat Parade.
Miami Times Gator in the Bay Oct, 2013 I was involved in building parts of this project. This year will be even better when the 185 ft of body is attached to the 100 ft long head.
The "body" will be 102 floating 4 ft by 8 ft photo panels, each one a photomosaic of about 5000 photographs.
The "mouth" opens and closes via a big backhoe mounted to the deck of the 70 ft long barge that it is on. About 25 ft of the head hangs off the back of the barge.
The overall purpose of the giant piece of artwork is to raise awareness of the fragility of the Everglades ecosystem.

2013 Update: The body was completed, and floated in the bay at Miami this year. The project is finished now, and the gator head is looking for a home. Note the two people standing at the end of the tail for scale.
