I always wanted to try a comp as such. I have seen others in similar fashion. Just a shot for my own learning and setting up an emotional message through using a photo.

Taken on the bathroom floor at my place of work...I guess I get "paid" to take photos...ha-ha....

Post-edit info: I had used un-sharp mask, levels, color adjustments, and reduced some redness with de-saturation....

Beautifully shot. I guess we have all felt this way sometime.

Thank you to all those did comment and those who found time to think outside of a box for a moment...Your time and generous comments on the picture page and in forums as well PM's are thanks enough and makes me smile...I know I can't please or get through every person to be happy with my photo(s)...Not the point...I find happiness to be alive and too not end my life in such way as the photo shows...My camera is just one element that help me to live again after personal interests....there's more to a photo than one might see.

Wow! This is really fabulous. Very clean and professional. The DOF and lighting are superb and really give this image feeling and emotion. I didn't vote in this challenge, but this would be at least a 9 from me.

This communicates EXACTLY waht you intended - why the hell is it down here (245th????). This shot would be nothing without the backlighting. I simple don't understand the voting...

Dark, moody, depressing, emotive... yeah. I love it. It's an excellent photograph. As usual. :o)

I don't see how this is seen as an image which is too graphic. It is an excellent composition with great use of focused/unfocused objects. It is not anywhere near as graphic as hannahfate said:
"It's like the difference between showing two people looking at each other passionately, and showing them actually having sex. It's something that is better implied than shown directly."
It has a great impact and tugs at the emotions, and a more subtle photo would have seen voters confused at the point of the picture. Surely this is real art, that it hits the emotions like it does?

a little dark...

Wow. This sure grabs you!
I like that the light is perfect for the shot. Not just backlighting for the sake of the challenge.
It's a hard subject, but really well done. gets my highest score so far.

A different way of looking at the use of photography to that which I'm used to but as an image its good. I would have just gone with the image of the hand myself, it could be quite strong on its own.

I hate the subject, but i can't fault any detail in the photo. Tremendous emoptional impact. Among my top picks.

The difficulty with imagery like this is that it can be TOO intense. It's like the difference between showing two people looking at each other passionately, and showing them actually having sex. It's something that is better implied than shown directly. The same thing, but with the hand alive, the person pushing around the pills (more of them) with a fingertip, would not only be more accesible, but would also have an element of suspense. The emotional content would still be there, but toned down enough to not shock a viewer into rejecting the image.

Strong emotional content is tricky to work with, you are setting yourself an admirable challenge.

A little to much CSI?
09/09/2004 07:35:30 AM
the lighting looks like it's coming from above, not from behind
09/08/2004 11:22:43 PM
I would of prefered the pills & bottle to be in focus. I have seen another photograph in another challenge that has suicide in its composition or at least a reference to it. I hope your comments recieved aren't negative due to the content. Good one thinking outside the square & coming up with an image that tells a story.

Nicely lit! Could be a little brighter, but I could be wrong. Gets the point across.

should have been with more dof

A image with a possitve message... but i find it a little dark even for a backlight contest, I would had tried to iluminate the pils plastic can from behind it (a small lantern or similar) so it make the composition more "impacting".

This appears lit from the top
