Shutter: 30 seconds

Taken during a strong storm here in Sydney. This pic was taken from my bedroom window on a 30 second exposure. It's also one of the first "lightning bolt" shots I've ever done.

Ok, I can finally comment on them "did not follow the rules" posts.

As the title says, the clouds were meant to be the main aspect to this shot. They were illuminated from behind by the lightning, and were not cast into sillhouette. Yes, the house was, but that was there for framing, not for subject.

I agree with those who said I should have cropped in closer. I'll keep that in mind for next time :)

Thanks for the comments.

Cool Photo... How did you manage to snap a picture at that exact moment when the lightning struck....

Some tighter cropping would have enhanced this feature

It's always nice to catch a lightning. Maybe more composition.

The only thing that is lit is the lightning. It's not really lighting anything from the back. Nice capture of lightning, but not a good fit for the challenge.

Good job.

I'm impressed with the lightening photo! Hope you weren't in danger. I would have cropped the city lights off the left side, but that's just a personal preference.

Great timing, and like the way the lightning is not centered.

did not follow rules, object can not be a silhouette.

The lightning is great and it does backlight the clouds. I gave you a seven but would have scored it higher if you could have cropped the left side and maybe some of the bottom, but I don't know what resolution you had to begin with and if that section (the one with the lightning) couldn't be enlarged it would end up too small. Congrats on the shot though. I still haven't been lucky enough to catch some lightning. Good Luck!

The idea was NOT to make the object in the forground into a sillohouette...

A spectacular lightning shot. I was praying for a thunderstorm during this challenge.

good timing

I like the image but had to knock off a point because the rules state "the subject must not become a silhouette because of the backlighting."
