Thank you Vikas, Katie, Don and T for the wonderful and prompt comments.
If you did not know yet, you probably guessed that I am nuts about painting and taking photos at museums is one my most favorite things in life. This is taken at the Met where we are lucky to have a few Vermeers.
The girl, yes, one only, was posing for her mom after glaring over the painting (girl to girl) and I "saw" my future picture in front of my eyes. Therefore, I added the twin, each girl with a secret smile on.
My problems I guess are mostly technicals. I am also lazy and do not cary the big Nikon with me.
I just wanted to know how much I am missing technically.
LevT said and rightly so that "the girls look posed, especially looking straight into the camera, the light is also not very interesting".
Well, he did say "the girls" so I must have fooled him also!
I object to his "posing" comment. I wanted to show the difference between the obviously posing girls and the one totally candid in the painting.

Thanks again.

I can't imagine getting such a "catch" of emotion. The painfully silent faces of the twins VS the vibrant expression on the painting is exciting. The expressionless light adds to the feeling. An amazing photo

I like how you make me look at the girl('s) smile then I look up to reference the expression on the Vermeer, kind of a cyclic inside joke.

Incredible, made me look twice, even the way they are holding their pamphlets is almost identical, very bizzare!

looked at your photo again and read the comments. Of course you did fool me! I probably would've have suspected something fishy if I looked really closely, but I did not expect such slyness from you! :) It is quirky, no doubt about that! And I loved the idea of a variation on the theme - there are two variations here, actually, the second being a variation on the first variation :). I guess my immediate reaction was muted because it did not look like a candid capture of girl(s) posing for somebody else - but rather as a photo of girls posing for you. This made the image a bit too cerebral and schematic to my taste, I always like to see the element of spontaneity in a photo. And besides, I just have seen way too many photos of people posing in front of various pieces of arts, or mimicking them for the camera just for laughs.

Fooled and fascinated me. Wonderfully quirky image.

Commenting for the critique thread - although I have just read your description, I would have called this as a clone... The patterns of the stray hairs on her forehead and above her crown are just too exact to have been 2 different people, as was the position of the booklets (albeit the clever flipping of one the images on the booklet is a nice sleight of hand) and her fingers... Too many similar elements to have happened by chance :-)

That said, you have clearly fooled some, so you can't have done too badly!

For me, the dead giveaways apart from the girls themselves is the noise pattern is interrupted quite clearly around the girl on the right so to make this more believable you could perhaps add some noise after the edits to smooth those areas out - looks like a lot more editing artefacts right up the fit hand side of the image - have you cloned out another frame or something?

Technicals aside from an editing point of view, I actually really like the engagement of all 3 faces and the symmetry is intriuiging. With a bit more effort at the editing this could be a real winner.

this is wonderful! and the lighting the same on the twins - on EACH twin - as on the figure in the portrait. While I delight in the composition, I would love to fast forward to see how the twins' differences pan out: almost stereoptic.

a "problem" is something that interferes with the seeing, and therefore the appreciation, of the photo.

Nothing interferes with my appreciation of this photo. Therefore, I see no problem with it.

All I "see" are three expression beautifully suited for one another. A bizarre but ultimately joyous cumulative effect.

It's quite a phenomenal effect, actually. Stunning. These girls are possessed by the Masters. They are turning into oil paint right before my eyes.

I second what vikas said.. it is engageing and intrigueing... I would not have b/w this maybe just a tiny tiny bit of +exposure or fill light but not much, and that is being nitpicky!

This is such an interesting shot at so many levels! Don't know if this was candid or staged. Considering that the girls are holding pamphlets and the hair are not identical for both girls it seems like a candid - which makes this an amazing find! Eye moves from the two girls to the painting and keeps you engaged in the shot. Composition and crop wise I really like this as is.

That said, technically the picture has few problems - color temperature is off, there is a slight blur - pink and lined shirts are distracting - I would have converted this to B&W and did some dodge and burn to bring the focus to the faces of the girls and the painting.

Hope this helps!
