You know, I almost commented "This must be jagar's" but then I remembered you were scoring so poorly and this had to be scoring well. I wondered who was doing a great imitation of you! Congrats on the blue in a challenge you naturally owned. :-) |

I figured you'd be in the blue. :)
What I like about the shot is that I would have a tendency to have cropped it just to the "gossipers". But leaving in the rest of the scene adds so much. Huge congrats!! |

Took me a while to figure out which one was yours and which was AllenP's. Just glad they both ribboned as they were both exemplary work. |

One of my top picks - wonderful interaction and suggestion of stories in the lives of these people. And I'll bet you got very close if you knew the subject of their conversation - French people may be animated, but generally they are not loud when they are in public places. That's one thing Americans visiting France comment on - if they ever quiet down long enough to notice :)
ETA Congratulations on the Blue, John!

ARE they arguing? Doesn't look like it to me... |
Not arguing, talking about their husbands, when that happens, you can get within ten inches and still not be noticed :)

You are an amazing talent, man. Don't ever put your camera down. |

Very nice. Each grouping tells a stor as the recide into infinity. Not sure who declared letterbox borders a fashio statement, but I find is detracts from an excellent photo. |

Nice composition with the three groups. Unless I'm wrong, the dodging of the folks in the shadows makes them look a bit too bright compared to how I'd think they'd be rendered. It work well though, and the line of the shadow itself pulls the viewer through things well. Nice timing with the gesturing and the open mouth. Feels jagary. |

A wonderful story has been captured here that is nicely balanced by the people walking away. The processing is very well done and I really like the way you have made the ladies pop. I feel it is almost over done with the far left lady̢۪s foot becoming almost unrealistically bright compared to the path. I say almost, as it doesn̢۪t distract from the power of the image for me. Well done! |

Interested in how you got to get the people to stand out in the correct exposure bracket between shadow and highlight (noticeably the child and mother walking half in half out, and the lady's bag and leg). I assume selective dodging (/burning) - but how do you make it look so natural / the transition not really count?
Oh and this has to be jagar's work if i'm not mistaken ;) |
