Challenge: Baby Animals II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Date: Apr 17, 2009
Aperture: 2.6
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Aug 8, 2012

We chased a feral cat that was attacking a rabbit nest. The mother was gone. One bunny was dead and the cat left with one in it's mouth. This bunny had escaped and was shaking in the lawn. My husband picked it up and cradled it in his hands. It's heart was pounding. I went in to get the camera not expecting it to still be in his hands. When I came back my husband was quietly talking to it and it had stopped shaking. It just sat there not wanting to leave. When he did put it down it looked at him then hopped away. Every time my husband came out to garden after that it would come over to him. It even followed him around at times when he mowed. Last winter we think a hawk got him. My bunny whisperer misses his little bunny buddy.

Only just checking out this challenge, having missed the voting. Tis is by far my favourite shot in the challenge. Such a touching little story too. Oh and I much prefer the entered shot to the reworked one. I found the haloes overpowering on the reworked one..

Have reworked this image and wish I had done so before the challenge ended. See it in my portfolio. Would love to have feedback.

Oh, sad story :-(. Cottontails are not usually so social, especially with people. Your husband and that bunny had something special.

If that's a Cottontail I can't believe it's neither jumping nor screaming. People tend to flip them out, even as babies. Darned cute image, I must say. Especially as I'm partial to lagomorphs.
