 I typically don't do HDR shots, but my recent hike through The Narrows in Zion seemed like a perfect opportunity. The mid-day glow combined with the texture and color found in the canyon is stunning and I had a feeling the technique would work well here.

Like nearly all my photos from The Narrows, the three photos used for this HDR were shot on a tripod in the middle of the Virgin River (the vast majority of the hike is IN the river). All three shots were taken at f/8, ISO 100 and had the following shutter speeds: 0.4 sec, 1/10 sec (underexposed), 1.6 sec (overexposed).

The three photos were then combined with Photomatix Pro and fine-tuning done in Lightroom.

Weird, I did indeed lose the title at rollover... The title was "Only the man who crosses the river at night knows the value of the light of day." I figured it fit the image well. :)

Wow! I've seen alot of stunning Zion photos, but this one is so unique -- not the kind typically shown. It's breathtaking! Congratulations on the honorable mention!

Woah. I was sitting very close to my screen and then when this came up I said "woah" and moved back a little. This definitely has the "woah factor" for me. A 10 and possible winner!
