 There were some people on the rocks looking for crabs as we were leaving the oceanside / beach. I had an elevated view from the boardwalk and wanted to isolate this young man among the rocks. Would have liked a little more distance to give it a more minimalistic look. I did have B&W in mind when I captured this image and I'm pleased with the look overall. Quite sure there will be a few comments on the crop / composition ... that was the most difficult aspect of this whole photo. I wanted some tension with the person looking out rather than in. Stayed away from an upper or lower thirds line which I tend toward. And context was important with the vast rocky shoreline area.

Post-processed with Adobe Lightroom 4: B&W conversion with a slight curve applied. Crop a smidge, resized, sharpened, and border applied.

This struck a chord with me. I did something very similar some time back. Yours works much better.

I neglected to comment on this. I really liked the "pattern" and "texture" created by the rocks. I initially didn't catch the boy in my first second of looking. I think that's why I liked this so much; the kid is camouflaged. Great shot. FWIW, I was one of your 8's.
