| You did a nice job of lighting the fruit to capture the texture and color variation. The most interest part is in the center and if you zoomed in close to that it seems like it would greatly increase the impact. |

| Cantaloupe? wouldn't immediately pick this as a dessert in the traditional sense. That being said it is sweet so it dmc. That aside, I'm really loving the textures here. The lighting is nice and the muted tones are very pleasing to the eye. This shot would definitely look good blown up hanging on a wall imo. (bumping to an 8) |

This is a tough challenge to vote. I'm torn between "what are you trying to do here" and "what do I expect here". Further complicating matters is the question "what would I do here".
What I would expect would be a technically strong piece of eye-candy that would present the dessert in a way that I would want to at least sample it, if not order it. Along these lines I'm looking at technicals: backgrounds, distracting elements, exposure, sharpness. I'm also looking for creativity, imagination, and originality, which can make up for less than perfect technicals.
So, where does this leave me with your image?
Nice piece of artwork! Good luck with the DNMC crowd, though. I would probably even out the background, either dodging the right or burning the left; the imbalance is a notable distraction from an otherwise lovely image. |

Love the fact it's not an actual dessert, at least not in the traditional North American sense. Not really a fan of the title, but I never take points away because of that (although it may add to the score). I like the dark, somewhat grungy processing done to the cantaloupe as opposed to making it bright and cheery. This is something if there were a series of them, I could see some people hanging them in their kitchens. |

| I think the heavier grain detracts from the photo and seems to have drained color from the capture. the melon looks to ave begun to go bad. |

Voted much earlier coming back to comment.
Cantaloupe is definately sweet and tasty. The shot holds potential to be very appealing to the eye if a few things were done differently. First you have great detail in the melon and the dark backdrop really allows the color to pop off the page. The drawback to the very detailed flesh of the cantaloupe is that the high contrast to bring out those details 'over-ccoks' the melon making it look dark and burned. I think if you pull back a bit on the detail, the melon would look more bright and appear fresh and juicy. My other recommendation (imho) in improving the visual appeal is to change up the angle to create a composition that in dynamic rather than static. What I mean by that is the the overhead looking down does add any 'hook' for the eye to linger longer and study the image. A suggestion is cutting the melon into a few easier to eat slices that are posed in an interesting arrangement which would give the eye more to look at rather than one large chunk. |

| Fruit? Yes! Dessert? It's a stretch. POV? Could have been a little more dynamic. Lighting/Clarity? Beautifully shot. |
