I had a blast with this challenge! My husband and I took the ferry across the river -- there's always a group of seagulls following the ferry.

What I was trying to do was to get the water that was churning behind the ferry along with the movement of the bird, so that it wasn't a panning shot, but the water and the bird that created the movement. It was incredibly difficult to hold the camera still and let the bird fly through -- it's so natural to try to pan!! This was a lot more difficult than I expected, but it was a lot of fun!

One of the biggest surprises was this one -- I absolutely love it:



The seagull was standing on the end of the boat, the water was churning in the background. He stood there for a little while, and then walked out of the picture. Voila! A texture overlay without photoshop!

I really have to remember to do shots like this while doing my regular shots. You get some absolutely wonderful surprises.

Oh, I forgot that I had used the title before. I thought I had only used other bits and pieces, and I submitted it quickly without time to rethink or look. But it really is the best part of that poem for this. He does seem to be chasing the wing. :)
