That is a truly beautiful photograph.
I live in Knaresborough, and cross the viaduct in the picture twice each day on the train. I never tire of the view. This composition has been used many times in both photograph and painting, yet this is absolutely the best I've seen this view look.
Well done, and well deserved - and thanks for adding to the publication of Knaresborough as the most beautiful town in England. :) |

Very Nice, good work in spotting this scene and in your editing as well. I wonder how it would look with a darker sky rather than light, contrasting the trees and complying more with the hues of the water yet excentuating the bridge. As an uneditied photo i am sure this one came as close to perfection as any. |

Critique Club Comment:
How could I ever Critique this?
This is a wonderfull almost unreal photo, the lights, the trees, the smoke, the reflection of the water all add to the picture.
What I personaly like is the church in the background, it gives it more depth.
What's another great thing about this one is that you can come back to it as much as you like and just find another overlooked detail, search for something new every time, it's just as taking a little trip :)
Now for some Critique, what could have been done to improve this picture? You gave the answer yourself, the sky is a bit boring, and it has a un-natural color, maybe because of post processing, but i'm glad you didn't crop tighter, if you ever buy the ND filter and if you go back there ....... :)
There was a lot to do about the border, personaly I don't care about the border here, it doesn't take anything away from the photo, but the photo can stand on it's own, so it doesn't need a border.
Congratulations on your blue, it's a deserved one! |

What lens did you use? (I wish they'd put that in the fields!) |

Agreed! I didn't have a graduated nd filter to use and I couldn't use my two exposures as its using two images. If I'm wrong please someone tell me! It would make a lot of my exposures winners!! Check the difference between this image and the image available for print. |

Hi everyone! Thanks for all your fantastic comments - I think I'm going to need a couple of weeks for my head to return to normal size!!
I have submitted this image to DPC Prints for approval so it should be online shortly if you want to buy any prints, and I've made use of the fact that I can combine more than one image. I've taken the sky from a locked off shot of the same position with a darker exposure and when combined the sky doesn't look quite so 'wierd' as it does in my submission. I've also warmed the picture using Photoshop CS's warming filter. I'd be interested to receive some feedback if you think its better than my submission.
Once again thanks for the ribbon and for the compliments :)
PS You can view other pics of our holiday to Yorkshire at www.pbase.com/p_johns/yorkshire where there's some others I'm really proud of.

Hope we like it ?????????? Are you kidding????? This shot is almost to beautiful to be real! I voted on this challenge, but wasn't able to vote every single picture, so I missed this one. I agree with the comment below. I don't see how this picture could have gotten any vote but 10!!! I can't help but think this print will sell so well because I can envision it so well matted and framed on a wall! Congratulations on your well-deserved 1st place! |

O..M..G.... I didn't get a chance to vote so I didn't see this until just now. There are so many elements in the photo that holds one's interest for a long time and each time I look at it, I see something else, like the smoke coming from the chimney on the lower right. You couldn't have chosen a better time of day and the way you composed the shot is alo perfect. I don't understand any vote but 10's on this one. WOW! If this photo of yours doesn't make the viewer want to visit Yorkshire, nothing will. Congratulations! |

It wasn't my favourite picture of the challenge, but this definitely belongs somewhere in a lonely planet, it's brilliantly executed, and while it might not be tremendously imaginative or provocative, when was the last time a postcard made you think.
On the down side, the border looks like something generated by photoshop circa 1982 - it really, really has to go. |

This is a fabulous shot with its beautifully mirrored reflections, the perfect balance between artificial and natural light, and the quiet evening mood enhanced by the slowly rising smoke from the single active chimney ... you obviously had the time to explore the village and find this spectacular vantage point (something I did not have when I visited the same village earlier this year). I believe this will be an award-winning shot, if not the outright winner! |

a magical feeling here! the golds and blue/greens sparkle with the light (I'm not sure how you got this effect but I like it) I think the border holds the shot back as it becomes an element not a frame (I'm usually a fan of borders but not this one, sorry) |
