I was a bit disappointed that this challenge came up after my visit to scenic Missouri. I wasn't sure I could find anything in the relatively flat farm lands of south eastern Wisconsin. But driving on a Saturday morning, I noticed this scene. The sun position was just right to have the shadow from the foreground tree sweep through the rest of the foreground. And the hills came alive with the light bouncing off the trees and creating a nice depth to the scene.
As I looked through some of Adams' work, I noticed that a lot of it has depth. Foreground and background objects in focus are a must. I was glad to find this scene, as it provided the kind of depth I was looking for, and didn't include any plowed farm fields, offering a more natural looking view.
I took bracketed exposures of -1, 0 and +1, not really for HDR, but more to see the scene in different lights. I'm glad I did, as the +1 turned out to be the best, with good contrast and no blow outs.
