Critique Club Comment:
I am looking at a technically great picture, guess what, it’s yours!
Lighting: Spot on. 100%
Composition: Great, a very interesting image.
Color and sharpness: fine.
I really like this photo, like the sky, the clouds the color of the wood against the sky, but why did you score so low? (I took a look at your profile and have seen ribbon winning pics)
Well I can only guess: The voters didn’t get what you where trying to say.
Keep in mind that voting a photo generally only takes seconds. Most voters expect something, and when they don’t get what they want they vote low.
So the question is, does this meet the challenge? I would have to say yes. But not a big yes.
If you take a look at the photo’s higher up (lets say top 20) you’ll see that most of them have composed their shot with something recognizable about the country/city that they “presented”, some of them (mine) are not even good pictures, but are scoring high just for being simple, voters know what it is they are looking at.
I guess you wanted to do something different, and didn’t get the appreciation you expected.
Keep in mind that not all voters vote because of the same thing. Some vote high on photos they like and low on photos they don’t like. Some others vote low if they think you don’t meet the challenge and others vote low on every flower, cat, dog or child.
Keep it simple, let your message get trough without thinking.
That said I just want to say again that this picture (without thinking of the challenge) is very attractive and well composed, nive POV, nice DOF all add to this interesting photo. Nice work.

PS: I scored you much higher then your final score.
