Ok, so where was I coming from with this entry? The challenge was Landscapes, but with the twist of making the entry as refreshing as possible. So, what makes a landscape, what defines it? In this case the physical geology and geography, obviously. The Lake District mountains, fells and valleys have formed as a direct result of glaciation - this, without a doubt provides the drama and structure to the landscape. But the landscape that we see today, and over the last millenia is also defined by its human usage, and in the way that it has been grazed, pastures created, vegetation cleared and changed; farms built, the fellside marked by walls. The valleys and lower fells of the Lake District have been grazed by hardy sheep for many hundreds of years. I wanted to show that sheep are not just a part of the landscape, but are a 'cause' of the landscape.

Never thought I'd describe a sheep as "regal", but there you have it. LOVE the notes and the entry. |

Curse me for a narrow minded voter, if you like. I gave it a neutral 5. |

I had the same "sheep/landscape" struggle others did - ended up giving this a very nice score and glad I did. What a lovely "photographer's comments" entry. Nicely reasoned as well as being a lovely entry. |

Ok. Not sure what to do with this one. It's more about the sheep than a landscape shot. However, there's so much landscape in the background that it is a landscape shot.
Interesting interpretation of the challenge.
It boils down to this:
It's awesome! -9- |

Seems to be more about the sheep than the landscape, though the setting is indeed a nice landscape. I'll have to give this one some thought. Ok I gave it some thought and I think I I gave this to 5 year old asking him to describe the scene, I would get "I picture of a sheep" not "a picture of a sheep in front of a lake and a hill". |
