There is nothing "wrong" with this picture, Scott. For me, the image lacks context, however. This happens a lot to everyone. We see something that we really like, especially when we know the backstory, or are familiar with the environment, or it has some sort of history. Thus for US, the image contains a lot more information that it does for the uninformed viewer.
In addition, the most salient feature of the image is the tree, which breaks up the rocks and the horizon, however, it is mostly hidden, and it is rather featureless. Add to that a comparatively large and empty foreground and... |
