This wasn't a planned shot, this was a completely found shot.
I ran down to the river on the last day of the challenge (I had only gotten out once before during sunset, and I couldn't make it to the river in time.)
It's only about 16 minutes away, but I as sped (not really... well, kinda...) through the neighborhoods, I watched dejected as the beautiful sun went down below the bank of clouds. I kept going anyway, in hopes that it might break through in little chunks.
But a whole bunch of kids were in my way!! I asked the mom if she would mind if I took photographs, and she said no, so I camped behind them, shot some, waited, and shot some more.
My favorite time was when the little boy would through sand up in the air.
It sounds like people aren't understanding the title, but as I watched the dark cloud, it looked like it was it was turning into a giant beast.
When I got home I was thrilled that in one of the pictures, the boy's "food" that he was throwing in the air actually made it to the mouth of the beast!!
There are some incredible shots in this challenge. This was such a difficult challenge -- to make a sunset look good in black and white takes a different type of sunset. Don't believe me? Find one of your sunset shots and turn it b&w.
Here's the shot from the night before when I didn't make it to the river. I liked this one too, but the entry seemed special.

This would have been amazing in total black and white. Don't like the blue tint. |

Really like this. Wonderful detail throughout including in the darkest areas. The little bit of grain underneath the cloud is unfortunate, but doesn't detract too much. Nicely balanced composition. |

Nice use of silhouette and very good arrangement of clouds in the sky to balance your image. |

Awesome I say awesome Wendy. I especially love the way the child's hands are positioned - this is a real winner, all the best. |
