Brilliant. Could benefit from more cropping though?

Excellent shot! I like both the retired and this one about the same. I like the retired because of the shadowing in the photo and this one has great detail. Beautiful!!

Congrats!

O yea... why lower expectations? Mainly because this particular picture (that ribboned) in a way, is not an original. Basically, I haven't taken this shot because of the title of the challenge, I kind of recycled it.

I know the title 'Framed' is a bit obvious, but that was the name of the original and I decided to go with it.

PS
Sorry about my English skills, still thinking in Croatian :)

350 votes?! I'm amazed... Thank you for your votes and comments!

I must say - I've had lower expectations for this one. Why? Well, there is a little story behind it and maybe some of you might find it interesting or useful.
This particular picture is in fact a recreation of one of my earlier photos. The original photo was taken about 6 months ago, won a few contests and was proudly retired. Those contests had nothing to do with framing or any other theme, just an ordinary POTD contests.
Then, I saw 'Framing' contest on DPC... I remembered the retired photo and decided to repeat the shooting session, not only to follow the DPC rules, but to find out what has changed in 6 months regarding my shooting skills and such... The important thing was not to look at the original photo because that would have killed the experiment. However, as I had found out later, there was a downside to this - two pictures were not taken at the same time of the day (nor the same time of the year for that matter).
So... went on the location, took a few shots, picked one picture, cropped it, adjusted levels and shadow/highlight ratio, played with curves, resized the edited picture and here we are.
Any improvement in 6 months? That's for you to judge, here's the older picture.

more contrast, within the frame highlighting the tree vs the buildings would have added more to the pic...all the same nice picture

cool shot, is that tree natural? looks kinda bonzai-ish from this angle.

Shame about the too tight crop but this is exactly what the challenge calls for.

Good shot, well centered and good detail. Cropping few pixels at the top and at the bottom probably would be better.

This is my favourite image in the challenge. It's almost surreal. Great capture, well thought out.
What I wish for is another version of the same image without excessive sharpening.

Still is my favourite and still don't like the halos.

I feel that a closer crop would give this composition even more impact. The subject matter is extremely interesting backed by the beautiful clouds and the cityscape. "8"

Nice, I just don't dig the off balance thing happening, like the building's tilted to the left

Finally! A picture where I can see the framing instantly, and where the subject through the frame is appealing and there are no awkward shadows. Very nice! One of my 3 favorites.

If this shot had been a *little* less tilted, I would have scored it an extra point. It's a *gorgeous* framing work.. but the tilt juusst puts it off for me.

Very strong and straight to the point. The title could be less obvious.

Good shot. The stone-work generally seems to lack a little punch - I would personally have pushed it a little harder with curves or something, just to bring out the contrast there more. That said, that quality does allow the compositional thing with the tree to come out well. Can't quite see it on the front page, but I couldn't say why it doesn't deserve to be there. very good, actually. 9
