Sometimes I surprise myself.
This is just about exactly what I wanted to achieve when setting up this image. I tried to do it once before

but I didn't have the equipment to do it. I still don't have the equipment to do this image easily, but I'm really glad the my efforts achieved what I wanted! Lots of to- and frow- ing to set up the flash for this.

I don't know how it will do. I think it's a significant improvement on the smoking image, so I hope it does better than that.

Great light and processing. Some vulnerability in that stare. You take really good portraits, Niall.

This is absolutely fantastic: 10

Edit: I think what makes it so powerful is all the negative space, which must be nearly half, so score is now 5.

Edit 2: It's probably closer to 40%, so 4.

Edit 3: Why didn't you use more negative space? 3

Excellent lighting. The combination of your direct stare and hidden other half, give this photograph a really intense feeling. I think I almost would have moved your face a little farther to the right and left some more dead space to the right as it is quite effective.
