Who would you recommend for camera insurance in Australia?
I can't put it on the home owners policy as i live with my parents and am not able to put the sort of value i have in camera gear on their policy. I'd also like to be covered when travelling and from theft while away.
I looked at travel insurance and the ones i looked at only cover up to about $3k in camera equipment, and that's basically the D700 body alone at australian prices.
Basically all my lenses and bodies are imported except for my 2nd hand 80-200 2.8 which is aussie.
Has anyone had good results with any particular insurer?
I'm not a pro photographer, and all the insurance i could find was only for pro's... |

I am with NRMA and they cover me in Australia and New Zealand. However, like all insurance companies...read the fine print.

I have mine with RACQ as an extra to the House Insurance so I expect you can purchase it separately. Same as Judy, only covers Australia and New Zealand (which think for the price really sucks).
I have seen two togs slip at the beach on rocks and go down with their cams. Couldn't stand to loose my lovely 7d and a good lense. Had to get insurance.
Good luck. |

The most coverage I could get was $5k that was fine for me. I did plenty of shopping around and reading policies.
If you have a problem with theft report it immediately wherever you are, even if it means missing a flight as most policies require a police report from the country where the theft took place. |

keegbow, good advice on reporting the theft... Cant think of any flights that would cost more than a decent camera or lens.
I really quite liked the terms on these guys: //www.photoinsurance.com.au/index.php - they basically covered everything you insure world wide, no questions asked. They give you hire after your lose/damage your equipment too.
I need to get my butt into gear to get insurance as i'm heading over east for a few weeks snowboarding/skiing and want to have my camera with me so there is a much higher risk of loss/damage up there... |

Would be interested in knowing how much you insure for and how much it cost (always looking for a better deal).

I'm with Protecsure, I insure around $12,000AUD of kit for about $500 a year. That insures me for theft, loss, damage, traveling, but there's an excess on each piece of equipment ($250 I think) so it's only worth insuring the more expensive stuff.
Never had to claim but I did a lot of searching for them before I took it out and didn't find anything bad. They are part of the Chubb group. |
