I just ordered it from amazon for 200 bucks. Since I'm new to digital photography, this looked like the best camera for the money.
My Question is, what are some good accessories for this beast? I think I like taking mostly macro and background shots.
Thanks.

I took 5,000 pictures with my A70 in the last ten months, so I guess you could say I love that camera. I bought a teleconverter (and the adapter to mount it), but I'm not convinced yet that it was worth the extra money. It's only usuable at the longest zoom setting. You can't use the viewfinder with it mounted because it interferes, so in bright light you're kind of on your own since the LCD is hard to read. I also bought a closeup filter kit, with a 1, 2, and 4 filter which I thought I'd use for macro, but I never really used them either. I think the macro on board is excellent. So, here's my advice: get a set of rechargeable batteries and a charger (or get two sets), get a camera case if you want one (I use my pocket), and get a 128 CF. Start shooting. You're going to have a blast! |

I kinda fully agree with this,
The only thing you could also do is a 256mb instead of 128 (cards are cheap these days anyway), or maybe take an extra fast cf-card, because im quite happy with mine.
Otherwise, a mini tabletop tripod, they hardly cost anything and they're really quite useful
i've got one like this myself. Solid, stable and extendable.

Like boomer I was a loyal A70 user until about christmas. I would say you'd need more than 128MB, but obviously it's easy enough to add more flash as and when you need it.
If you're interested in really mangnified macros then you might like to invest in a cheap ($5-10) old 50mm SLR lens. Get the teleconverter adapter (kind of like a lamp shade - about $20 I think) and you should be able to hold the 50mm to it backwards, or buy a ring adapter (to screw them together - $5-10). Some pros do this with Canon G2s and the like, and it works better than you might think.
Here's a shot I did with that setup, here:
Let me know if you want any advice on what lens to look out for, either from a second hand camera shop or Ebay. |

i would never think about screwing SLR lens to A70 or G2..5 but if that's possible why not.
anyway i was using my A70 for over eight months and liked it. i do agree that tele-photo converter is useless. returned mine same day i bought mine. but still keep wide angle converter - came handy many times.
definitely buy double set of rechargeble batteries. you may also consider 512mb CF card. yes, A70 can support such capacity. at least mine does it |
