I have a sitiation that should not happen. I have a Canon EF24-105mm f/4 IS USM that contacts my Canon 77mm UV Haze filter. I e-mailed Canon and their answer was that they recomend the Canon 77mm UV HAZE 1 filter. I checked Amazon and B&H Photo neither one carries a Canon 77mm UV HAZE 1 filter. Does anyone have any experience that might help me understand what's going on?

TIA

What do you mean, it "contacts" it?

FWIW, Calumet photo is reputable and they carry Canon's UV Haze 1, 77mm for $50, give or take.

But what, exactly, is the problem?

When I mount the filter on the lens a dark spot appears in the middle. It appears on the last quarter turn of the filter.

Well, at the risk of sounding flippant, get rid of the UV filter. Unless you shoot in *very* inclement conditions and it is protecting the front element from truly damaging spray or abrasive particles, get rid of it, and use the lens hood as your protection.
I am surprised that *any* filter is capable of coming in contact with the front element. The element must stick out past the beginning of the threads, and the glass in the filter must be really close to the back of the filter.

Well, there is a time and place for shooting with a filter. I want one that does not touch. Will there be any difference in the mounting of a uv haze 1 compated to the uv haze? Has anyone had this issue with this or any other lens?
