I thought some of you might be interested by the following thread on //www.stevesforums.com concerning the relative merits of a Panasonic FZ10 and a Canon Rebel.
Before I bought my FZ10, I was considering a Rebel, so this thread makes for interesting reading.

Bob, I hope you get your FZ10 back from repair soon. I get to like mine better and better all the time. My parents are visiting from Montana right now and they brought all their digital cameras with them. Tried my Mom's Sony 717 and my Dad's Fuji 7000 plus their Minolta and none of them feel as nice. Tried my sister's Sony 828 while visiting her last week - didn't like it at all. We both took pics at my niece's graduation and hers with the Sony 828 were noisy and had camera shake even though she had it on a tripod. I handheld mine and they turned out very well, she had to get copies of mine.
I just added a Fujifilm S602 to my cameras as I got a great deal on it - I see you added one, too!!

The Fuji 602 belongs to my wife, but yep... it's a great camera. We bought it at the time, because we really liked the pictures on DPC taken with it. It's colour reproduction is superb, and the camera looks good. I can't believe how cheaply you can pick them up for now! I don't know why you'd want to use one over an FZ10 though, other than perhaps the pretty good macro mode. |

i just recently got an FZ10, but i like the 707/717 as well. i think it produces cleaner pics than the FZ10, and has a faster lens at 2.0-2.4 5x. its low light capability with the hologram assist allows it to focus much faster than the FZ10 too. the only thing i don't like about it is the fact that it uses the stupid sony memory sticks, which are both capacity limited and pricey. |

It's like my Mamma always said, "It's not the length of the rope but the dangle of the bucket that matters."
Same goes with cameras! We've all seen some really BEAUTIFUL images snapped with the most low-end digicams (which is not to say the FZ10 is low-end so don't get your feathers ruffled). And we've also seen some pretty darn awful images taken with the best on the market.
That's one of the many things I like about this forum - good info and maybe a little good-natured ribbing now and then but nobody makes fun of anyone's equipment and we're all in it for the joy of bringing home that coveted picture. Happy shooting everybody!! |
