Perfectly clear explanation of the process, excellent set-up photos. I think this is a good illustration of something which is simple but not easy. Thanks, John. |

Very nice straightforward tutorial, John. Thank you for taking the time to do that. Your shot was one that I definitely wanted to see a "how'd they do that" on! Great shot, congratulations!

Looks like there is some black bleeding onto the white at the top where the black and white lines meet??? |

To jmsetzler and jacko i wish i could say i used the same amount of preperation for my shot which came 3rd. I just set the camera on auto and pointed in the general direction of the ink. I didn`t diserve 3rd place for the 5 minutes it took.
But this week i spent about 2 hours on the shot and picked up some great tips from both of your tutorials.
In the occupations challenge i will be pleased at a top 25 place, but through skill rather than luck.

I always struggle with my lighting on set up shots so I usually try to avoid them. Your tutorial makes it look simple but I know it isn't. The end result appears simple in it's execution but you clearly have a lot of knowledge of creating beautiful set up shots. Nice tutorial, John.

Just new to photography....I am a mature adult with my first digital camera. Love what I am seeing. Getting great tips from Pros and Amateurs. Good work on this shot.

John thanks for tutorial, it is great! I'm having an issue with the glass being very reflective on the dark sides of the glass. I'm guessing I need to eliminate any light source that's between the camera and the glass and rely entirely on light sources that are behind the glass and bounce back to the rear of the glass? I've tried umbrellas but the black on the glass is too reflective. |

No visible light sources between the camera and the glass or behind the camera...
