ok guys, i recently made an awesome homemade light box with some of my roommates. it's really easy to do and you're going to love it.
Materials:
1 or more feet of snow
5 snow shovels
5 able bodied people motivated to shovel snow into a pile
1 hose that isn't frozen
1 smaller shovel
1 or 2 flashlights
Directions:
1) assemble your team and provide each with a shovel.
2) motivate the shovel wielding people to build an extremely large pile of snow
3) pack the large pile of snow (spray with water if necessary)
4) spray the packed pile of snow with water. allow it to freeze
5) repeat step 4 a few times
6) grab your flashlight and a small shovel and start to dig out the middle. be careful to not break through the sides
7) put the item you'd like to photograph in the igloo light box
8) photograph your subject with an on camera flash facing any direction
9) process as usual
I chose myself and a couple of attractive women to photograph in my light tent. It'll work with pretty much anything though.
ok, so the real story is my roommates and i decided to build a fort with all the snow on our patio last weekend. it came out better than i could've ever hoped. it easily sits 6 people in the main room, and 1 or 2 people in the second room. there's probably a small chance of collapse, but we like to live... dangerously.

I don't know how feasible your lightbox would be here.
I'm not sure that some of the materials are available anywhere close to where I live. I have heard of some of them being shipped down here but that could get expensive.
And I wouldn't really want to use anything that is artificial. If I'm going to make one I'd rather go for the authentic lightbox. |

| yeah, i don't think an igloo would last too long down there. you're better off going with the box, butcher paper, and a few lights method |

| Very cool. I did this once when I was younger. You should make a photo collage of it melting. :) |

that's an awesome idea. i'll see if i can stay motivated enough to do that :)
i should clear up that the girls aren't actually my roommates. one of them is my roommate's girlfriend though, so she's basically a roomie. the other was just visiting for the week |
