To avoid sending large numbers of emails, the alert is sent as soon as the first reply to a thread you've subscibed is sent. Once that email is sent, no further emails are sent until you visit the thread again.

Where this ties into your suggestions is that a post emailed to you might not be something to which you want to reply, but a later post (which might interest you) would not be emailed.

Sorry if I missed it in this long thread but...

I only think I do not like is that every time I leave the site, all of the forums on my home page now look read when I come back. If I come in and only read one or two and then get called away, I would still like to know which ones at a glance I still have not looked at in my previous visit. Does that make sense?

Thanks for the great enhancements guys!!! Great work!!!

That is the only small detail I would still like also. One forum I follow has that feature; you know if you have read a thread or not, or you can "show them all as read" if you want to clean the slate for when you come back next time.

Shortly after Wackybill's post, I noticed that the forum folder icons now appear to maintain their "already read" colors from session to session. If that's the case, thanks! D&L, you guys are too good to us.

Doesn't look like it... I just logged out and back in and they reset.

Then I have some weirdness going on. Whether I logout/login or quit the browser entirely, some folders are blue and some are gray. Maybe I just don't understand what the colors mean (surprise, surprise).

Mine also reset when I close the browser and come back in. They all look as if they were read when I come back in. I believe that if you have some marked as e-mail, etc. they will stay blue or if someone posts something new to a forum post they will blue again when you log back in.

I think once you leave and come back, it goes by the time of your last read post or something.

Indeed, here it is...

For those techies who want to know... Folders will now dim individually as you read them during your session. If you leave the site and come back, all folders will be highlighted based on the last time you visited any thread. We will probably add in the ~near future saving this thread-specific highlight data for when you leave the site, but it depends on performance of the new upgrades.

Strange. When a new thread or reply, such as yours, appears at the top of the list it's blue- presumably to indicate that it's new. Moving down the list, I see gray folders for threads I that KNOW I've never looked at. In addition, when I posted my last message to this thread, the folder turned blue- even though the new post was from me. EDIT- It didn't happen this time.

That makes sense. Thanks, Terry. Still doesn't explain seeing my own post in blue, though. I've only seen it once.

I haven't gotten that part yet either.

I've noticed some inconsistency in the way the color is applied.

Me too. Also, I know this will be revisited so I will be patient, but as it stands, it is confusing to come back and tend to ignore posts in gray, then realize I haven't clicked on any of those.

There seems to be a glitch in the system.... I have my preferences set up to show 30 most recent threads... after ignoring threads, my list only has 17 threads visible in it...

I think that's been previously noted ... I think it generates the list of 30 and then "Ignores" marked threads, without replacing them from the pool. There's some other changes coming soon, so I don't know if this will get fixed before or during the next phase.

The forum shading feature seems sort of useless. It still isn't clear to me why a bunch of them turn dimmed, somewhat randomly. If there isn't a clear reason for a thread to be dimmed, yet it is, then the dimming seems to loose any meaning. In fact, it's mostly just distracting to me, because it doesn't have a consistent meaning. Can anyone explain really why often they are all dimmed? Drew's statement seems a little ambiguous.

That's not quite the case...

It selecs your a list of the most recent 100 threads, then displays the 30 most recent non-ignored threads. If you have a very high number of threads ignored, less than 30 will appear. In this case, it appears John has 83 of the 100 most recently active threads ignored.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can we have a facility to see non-challenge photos organised by camera? I REALLY miss this feature since it was removed. As we seem to be on a roll of improvements here, I'm sure this one wouldn't take too long.

I second the motion! This is both a great learning tool and a good way to make shopping decisions. other sites (not trying to promote them) like photoSIG also let you categorize your images by lens type and filters. It's pretty to cool to see a bunch of sample images taken with 2 different lenses you are considering buying...

Sounds pretty cool. Of corse this only works if folks are entering their camera type when uploading images into their portfolio.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... using DPC-sized images (with a maximum height/width of 640 pixels) is not a good way to make an educated decision about what to buy. Much better to look at full-size, direct-from-the-camera images from review sites where you can see the sensor noise, chromatic aberation, birefringence, etc. that are easily "hidden" by resizing, cropping and/or post-processing.

That being said, I'm sure it can be "fun" to look at other images taken with "your camera", and the suggestion is on the list (as has been stated a few times).

I'll see that this gets on the list, but as Drew mentioned we are largely "on hold" with new DPC features while the DPC Prints ndergoes a heavy overhaul.

Once that is done, this could certainly be considered.
