I have narrowed down my choices to the Nikon D5000 and the Pentax kx... The nikon is about a $100 more. Is that $100 worth it over the Pentax? Let me know what you guys think.

My best advice would be to go to a store that has both models, and hold them in your hands. Whichever feels more comfortable, and whichever has the more intuitive controls is the camera you want. |

I know nothing about the Nikon but I am lovong my Kx. I like the fact that it takes regular aa batteries so you can get batteries anywhere in a pinch. |

They both have the same Sony sensor. |

Nikon (imo) but as someone already said whichever one feels right to you, go to the camera store an play with both an then decide. |
