Hi everyone,

I was interested in taking some wide angle shots, but on a budget. I found this Jackar 0.5X DLSR pro wide angle lens that 'attach' to the stock standard lens of my SLR.

Has anyone had any experience with such lenses or lenses of a similar nature? If so, are there any significant cons associated with it? What is the picture quality like etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Jo

I bought a 0.45x lens for my lx3 and I have to say I was very impressed. considering it was £30 I was not expecting much but it was worth every penny ... I'm not sure I would pay much more but for such a little outlay you can't go to far wrong imho.

eta, you need to make sure that what you buy is suitable to your camera and lens though ... otherwise you will end up with severe vignetting. The one I got came with a macro lens to fit before the wide angle adaptor and it gives no vignetting

Thanks for such a speedy reply!

This one also comes with the macro lens and seems pretty good from what is advertised. Just wanted to get some feedback on it though. Your 0.45X lens, were they from this Jackar company too? I can't seem to find their website and I'm looking at these lenses through Ebay, and never heard of the company. Just a bit uncertain...

I'll pretty much second what bobonacus said. These sorts of add-ons are obviously not as good as a stand-alone lens, but are far cheaper. Typical problems are vignetting, as well as a possible slight loss in contrast and sharpness. I'm also personally of the opinion that they are good for trying out how much you like wide angle or macro before jumping into the cost, as well as a good option for the user who wants to shoot macro or wide angle only occasionally. Just don't get one expecting the performance of a dedicated lens, and they can be fun.
You might want to look around; typically there are a few manufacturers out there for each variety.

Thank you spiritualspatula and bobonacus for your help. It was quite informative :)
