Oh wow! I didn't think of roaches. I know a few people that live in apartment complexes. They always complain about roaches. I'll have to go visit with camera in tow. |
no,no,no.....they are awful... |

Funny how I'm not seeing one dang spider crawling around here. They were around last week, I even sprayed them with water and they drank it, or was that drowning I saw ... :( |

Help please, I can't decide!!!
Which shot am I better off with?
A) A very interesting looking spider, great detail and colour. Probably fairly common in most places, but still cool to look at. Many people have that "eeeewwww" problem, though.
B) A more unusual bug that looks harmless enough, nice shot, but way more timid and tame looking, not as colourful. |

afraid I part of the "eeeewwww" crowd...just can't stand those buggers....and everytime one comes up on the screen I shutter...I try my best to stay impartial...but all I see is them crawling all over me...
FACT: you eat 10-12 spiders a year...that crawl into your mouth during your sleep...ahhhhhhh |

I would have a hellish time judging a photo of a cockroach fairly - those things are pretty much the only creature that freaks me out big time.
However, in a BUG challenge, people would have to expect to see spiders, right? Are they likely to punish spider pics, do you think? |

That is simply not true. A spider would never crawl into your mouth for many reasons, heat being one of them. Look it up. :) |

I took these shots last year at around this time. We had just had our first snow fall, and I was out on a freezing cold photo walk. I returned home and found this little guy frozen upside-down on the handrail to my steps. My point is, bugs don't move much when they're cold. Put your critter in the freezer for a few minutes. He'll be fine.

I love having challenges where I'm excited for the rollover. Hope not to be disappointed! Bug macros are always fun to look at anyway. |

That's like asking you to not find waterfalls and babbling brooks.
I agree, just give her the blue now.
At any rate, living in the northern hemisphere just requires a little creativity. I also think my entry has the potential to be ribbon worthy. We still do brownies, right? |

It could always be a Volkswagen ... especially since they're going extinct (again) next year. |

Ok. A macro of that shouldn't be too hard - at least it would stand still (without someone driving it). :-) |

Well, let's see... Hmmm. Could you train a frog to catch a fly on demand? Now THAT would depict a bug's life, albeit a not so fun one from the fly's POV. :-P |
