8fps, more telephoto reach, wireless flash control, 24p video, cheap radio remotes, electronic level, 100% viewfinder, smaller file sizes, lots of buttons, and $1000 cheaper. I already have a 10mm lens, so the only downside for me is a little more noise. |
I thought you said it is about 1 stop better.
Originally posted by scalvert: My main concern was noise, so that was the first thing to check. From what I can tell on a few quick snapshots, high ISO noise levels are slightly better than the 40D/50D, but thanks to the higher resolution it's a finer grain. Net result is about a 1-stop improvement at the same image size. 1600 is pretty clean, 3200 is usable, and 6400 is nasty. |

I think Shannon meant that it is about 1 stop better than the 40D/50D but a slight bit of increase in noise over the 5D MKII. |

How noisy is it in the 800-1000 range? Are those images clean without noise reduction processing? |

Go for it, guys. Just wait a month so I can try to get at least one shot on the camera page before you do take the plunge, OK? (I mean seriously, Shannon can't enter 30 challenges in a single month, so I have a fighting chance if mine gets here soon enough!) |

Oh you don't know the half of it. I'm using my purchase of the 7D to spur on a friend who's waffling on the 5D Mark II. I'm evil....
So go put your order in now. You know you want to.... |

Bear in mind that with so much resolution you'd normally view or print the images much smaller than 100%, so the grain is less prominent than it appears. I'd consider the images clean up to ISO 1600. ISO 3200 is decent, and ISO 6400 would work fine for smaller prints. [/quote]
I'm guessing its all smiles for you?

I ordered my 7D from Adorama. Apparently the first batch was sent out and I'm on the second waiting list. Has anyone ordered and received their 7D from Adorama? I wonder how much longer the wait will be. Hopefully it won't be weeks or months!

I want to hear what people think of the 7d that are moving from a 50D to the 7D. |

My last camera was a 50D. That camera was a little smaller and lighter. In every other aspect, the 7D is equal to or better than the 50D... mostly better. |

I emailed Newegg's support to ask them when mine would arrive :-) They said it would be processed to arrive by the official release date of 10/6. Not sure how that's the "official date," but whatever. I wanted it for a gig this weekend, but I guess I can wait a few more days.

Congrats on your new camera, scalvert! I am really interested on getting one too! I know that it will be a HUGE improvement over my 450D, but my main reasons on upgrading (besides the weather sealing and high ISO performance) would be the 8fps and the wireless flash. Could you please tell us if these two features are effective?

I called up pretending to be you and said that it was unacceptable for them to just hold it for an "official release date", especially when we know Shannon got his. Then I said "I (meaning you) didnt want the camera from them and they should cancel the order because I could get it elsewhere". You need to stop letting people push you around like that (and posting where you order things). Some day you'll thank me.
BTW, then I called back 15 minutes later asked if they had any in stock, and they said, surprising you should call, we just got a cancellation, so I bought it.

So you're going to be at Ricketts soon? On top of a waterfall? Leaning out over the edge to take a picture?
I can work with that.
:-)
