Hey guys I've been doing photography for quite some time now, but I've been using a friend's camera.
Now that I am going away for college, I would like to purchase my own camera and lens (with all the fixins basically).
And since I am a student, of course, I am on a budget.
So I was just wondering what is on the market that is worthwhile and affordable.
Thanks

What camera/lens were you borrowing?
That might be a starting point as to what your used to shooting with, then we can make a recommend based on that..

how much do you want to spend and what one or two features are most important to you? |

I was using a Nikon D90 Black SLR, pretty nifty camera.
But I'm looking for something around 300-500, I know my options are slim but I just want to get the best I can.
As for features, I really don't have any that are really important to me, maybe I'm just not good enough to have anything important to me yet haha.
I was looking at the Nikon D60 and I was liking that, since it's close to my old one, but it's still a little out of my price range, which leads me to the D40, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any input on that, or what they like in the 300-500 range.
Thanks

In your price range you should be able to pick up a pretty good used Nikon D80, D90 or D200 off off E-Bay. If you want new then go with the D60, you can pick it up with a kit lens at B&H for $546.95 right now with free shipping.

I have a D70 which is a couple of years old now but a solid nikon offering. See if you can find some used ones for a good price. |

According to both B&H and other local camera shops, they are willing to purchase my Nikon D2h (the only camera i've ever shot with) for... wait for it... the grand sum of $25.
That's right, the camera I paid $3200 for 6 years ago, my baby that has been there for every photo i've ever made, is worth $25. But I mean I still take pictures with it, obviously, so somewhere out there you gotta be able to pick up a cheap, good quality used camera to get you through college. |

Adam, are you serious? $25 ?! Your camera is very fast and 4 megapixels isn't bad considering how fast it is. I guess the new models come out and they want to sell lenses so they make these sales.
To the OP, I suggest you go with a pro-sumer level cam first. |

How much would you pay for a 6 year old 4mp camera??
yup, thought so. |

I would think the camera would hold its value on par with other 6 y/0 cameras. So I thought. |

I will offer you a premium price of $30 for your D2h. I could use a backup body :P |

Sorry this got off topic - and guess what? I'm keeping it off topic.
This is a recent ad from an Irish buy and sell site - your camera still has value.
