Hello everyone ...just dipping my toe in the proverbial water to test the temperature ! Been following this site for three and a half years and decided that really Procrastination really is the thief of all time ! So here I am trying not to make too big a splash! At 61 I think I should avoid acting my age !!

Welcome! Don't be afraid to make a big splash - most people here could use a good soaking, including me. Shoot, post, enter challenges, vote, get comments, get mad, get even, have fun.
By the way, lurking for over 3 years entitles you to post a spam link without raising suspicions. ;-) |

Actuall it's the name of one of my cats .....she was a huge kitten and it's really a derivation of Heavy 'Un!! It was the only way to distinguish her from her litter sisters !! Now I just need to find my way around the site to find the rules about posting etc .
Thanks for the welcome ... you're not as scary as I imagined ...though the quality of the photos you each have in your portfolio is a bit er ... daunting ... I just hope i'm not too far out of my depth ... I do a lot of restoration work snd digital painting too.... ah well ... talking of water ...I'll either sink or swim ... Not sure why you i would want to post a spam link though .... ??? obviously the irony has gone over my head !lol Thanks again for the welcome

There has been a rash of spam postings from brand new "members" on the forum recently. It was a bit of an inside joke. |

Thanks too Juliet ...in fact all of you for making me feel that I can at least ask some questions that may make me look a bit silly without feeling a complete idiot ... For example... I have been known sometimes to download pics to picasa and then import them to my hard drive ...( usually they go straight to my hard drive.) ARE THOSE PICS NOT THEN ORIGINALS FOLLOWING THEIR IMPORT? I just want to double check ..thanks guys |

No, his bite is definitely worse, ever since his run-in with that rabid bat.
As for whether they'd count as originals after being run thru' Picassa; I'm not sure about this software specifically but many of them do alter the EXIF data, which is what SC uses to determine the original. It appears that the recommended handling for potential entries is simply to drag and drop from your camera. I know there are threads that discuss various software but haven't come up (yet) with one that says yea/nay on Picassa specifically. |

| I do all my importing through Picasa and have never had a problem with them not being originals. |

Don't worry about validations. I've added you to my Favourite Photographers list, as you'll see on your profile page. This gives you automatic immunity from the Site Council, as they are simple minions of Slippy. You are under my protection. The bill is in the mail.

I did have a good look Sheila and likewise I haven't found anywhere that it states Picasa does alter the EXIF data...
... Aw thanks Slippy for taking me under your wing lol ....( er how can I possibly be a favourite ..... I haven't even posted an image yet !) but the sentiment is appreciated .... and I'll save my pennies to settle the bill asap .

My personal method of (pretty much) ensuring always having an unaltered original is to copy the file to the hard dive using a card reader and the computer's OS, but not deleting them from the card until after I've made a backup to optical media (CD, DVD) so that there are always two copies in different places/media. |

Ooooer just spent an hour or so checking upon your past Slippy ( blushes ).... Ooops ..and here I was trying to fly in under the radar...lol You can take me off the
" awesome " list now if you like ... I wont be offended ... and I'll endeavour to get on it legitimateley... ...... cheers though... it's the thought that counts..( wink )
