The good:
I had taken some photos of a marathon just north of here and out of all the shots I took which wasn't even the whole day 3-4 photos made it into the local newspaper. Two of those were on the front page. It's a smaller paper but it's still a newspaper right.
The bad:
I didn't get paid at all for any of those photos
The "you got to be kidding":
Not only did I not recieve any payment of any kind which is ok I suppose, it was more of a charity type thing to benefit the local chamber of commerce. The real crappy part was I didn't even get credit for the photos another photographer did. I do have the photos for proof and all data from the camera but I was more thrown into shock that a newspaper would do such a thing.
I would like to think it was just a simple mistake but I guess we will see what happens over the next week to see if they fix it or not. |

Well that just sucks. Even if they apologize, the damage is done and the other guy got the credit. It may not be a big deal to them, but they should be more careful. |

That's a bummer. I get photos published in the local paper here about every couple of months, but they always have put a byline for me with them. At least you know that you shot them, and they made the paper.
I think that I would ask them to publish a few more of yours, and give you credit for them. It would be a win/win for all that way with no hard feelings.

How did the paper get access to the photos? |

I had put up a gallery on my site that I'm building for the for the runners to see and for the chamber of commerce to see since they didnt get any photos from last years run. The paper got them from there. I can understand the runners taking them from there which I was ok with it was all great fun. The only thing that I did not like was the paper not giving the credit for the photos.
I guess I'm either not mad enough or just trying to not let it bother me that much... I guess its just the point of it all... Simple common courtesy would have been nice... |

well, i might consider getting mad enough, but thats just me being a hot head. i would personally go and strangle the editor of our paper if he did that. |

The paper took them, without permission, and then credited someone else? Ouch!
Or perhaps someone else took them without permission, and sent them to the paper as their own. In which case I think you can get a correction from the paper, and likely that person will find themselves banned from the paper.
Let us know how it turns out.

I'd hope it was a mistake, too. They can only fix it if they are informed, can we assume you have done that? |

Yeah, I'd kind of suspect the other guy of taking them and submitting them to the paper, except wouldn't he KNOW he'd be caught out?
Whoever took 'em, I hope they make things right, cuz that's just NOT fair.
