Since I think you are looking to improve these shots I'll skip all the things I think you did right and comment on how they could be better (IMHO). The two closeups in B&W look soft, I'm not sure if it is the lens, Long zooms not being famous for their sharpness. If you are going to be doing a lot of these shots the Canon 50mm f/1.8 at $75 is what you want; Plastic sharpness. Of course it might not be the lens, since the color shots are sharp, it might be movement. Strapping the camera on a tripod and using a timed release might be the answer.

The violin tree shots are clever, but they don't really show off either the shapes of the instrument, nor the wood. Under direct light the varnish tends to look too contrasty, rather like eyeglasses in a portrait. Try using a silk to soften the light, or using indirect bouncelight to bring out the colors and grain of the wood.

The framing of the first two are pleasant, they look like they are supposed to be details, the latter two have enough of the violin that the pieces out of the frame are missed, leaving a feeling of interruption.

Hey thanks for the reply and thx for post the four photos that way rlewis!

I think you are right about the what you said with the tree shots. I could not for the life me put my finger on what the problem was. I guess just too many shots and over looking. However I think what you said makes since and now I see what was buggin the hooey out of me.

any other comments are very welcome...

Thanks again!
