That's a very good question and it's questions and attitudes like this that can start dialogue to ending the atrocities in the Middle east and around the world. But first, I would like to say that I don't like the use of the word surrender which has negative connotations. It's not a surrender but an opening up of possiblities for all voices to be heard and then acted upon by the world community.
Now I know that many people don't like the UN, but in my eyes, that's one place to start dialogue. Also, there would have to be many voices added to the list in this dialogue, like Ariel Sharon of Israel, Hussein, etc...
I agree with ORussel that the US needs to start staying out of other people's affairs. I think that at the heart of the problem is the energy crises that the US and the rest of the world is coming into, and this is one area that has to be addressed.
I am currently not at home, but at a public computer at a library and will certainly continue dialogue on this or any other issue later when I get home.
Roger, I do appreciate your question.

Achiral...first let me say that I apologize if I have insulted anyone of the Christian religion...I didn't mean it to come out as hate against the people who practice and believe in Jesus Christ. There are many people within Christianity that I admire for their heroism and stances against the injustices of the world. Nor did I mean to imply that the Christian people were responsible somehow for the atrocities in Iraq. I am referring to the leaders and organizations that I believe to be Christian fundamentalists.
When I am at home I will post some web sites of issues that bother me regarding the groups and people I have mentioned above. If you can shed some light on the matter I would appreciate it very much as well.

Some of my best friends are Christians. |
your definition of christian is too broad
the grahams, robertson and reed..WOW!! how ignorant you really are. you're calling out about 30-40 percent of the country there buddy
prove to me where graham or robertson have said things that made you fit them into your sick little scheme |

Declare a ceasefire all throughout the Arab world, promise to stay out of world affairs that are not yours and demobilize your troops ASAP. I know that's never going to happen, as naive as you think I am. But you know things are going to get much worse in the world not better. The US is making new enemies every day. People all over the world resent the arrogance of the American institution. You want to make the world a better place? Don't perpetuate what your government has started.

Great question Rodger. But don't let anyone waste too much time on thinking of an answer becuse there isn't one. Do you think Americans would agree to follow the koran to make Osama happy? I know my wife wouldn't wear a burka and let me boss her around! Do you think Osama would agree to peace terms with us?
Does anyone really think there is anything we could do to make guys like Saddam and Osama like us?
They are the school yard bullies. If you be nice and give them your milk money, tomorrow they want your lunch money too. What everyone in the school yard needs to realize is that if they stood up against them, they could probably kick the bejesus out of the bully (I'm picturing the scene from "A Christmas Story"). You can't please everyone so it's not worth trying.
As for staying out of other people's business, should we have stayed out of Germany's business? Germany didn't do anything to us. We probably shouldn't have revolted against the British either. If you see a man beating up a woman are you going to step in? |

I think I would be willing to sign on to that with the caveat that the next attack against America by any Jihadist would be swiftly followed by Mecca going up in nuclear smoke. |

Roger, I consider your comment to be irresponsible. Once conventional nuclear weapons are used by any country I think that would mean that life on this planet would be in great jeapordy. It would set off a chain reaction with many countries that already have a cache of nuclear weapons, such as India and Pakistan, Israel, France, etc, using their stocks as well.
A side note: The US is already using nuclear weapons in Iraq in the form of depleted uranium, and has used them in other wars as well...the first Gulf war and in Bosnia. Many people are becoming sick from this, including our own GI's who are coming home ill.

Maybe one way to start a dialogue to end the problems in the middle east is to start to understand Islam and why the peoples of this region have detested us for some time, with the exception of Israel. From my understanding, Bin Laden hated the fact that the the Saudi's had granted to the US to establish military bases in their holiest of cities. But that's just one issue...there are others. |

I can't believe you said that and believe it. Where to start, there is sooo much. Don't you understand they want to kill you, simply because your not muslim. The ONLY way to make them happy is to completly convert, and even then they probably won't be happy. That mind set is dangerous and is the top of a cliff that drops off into non-existance...
I really think you need to learn more about what is REALLY going on and not the crap from news like CNN, MSNBC, Fox News or CBS... I pray to god that we never ever get a president into office who thinks what you just said is a plausible or sensbile idea.

Here is a very interesting web site about the rise of the religious right in the Republican party. Notice what the second paragraph says on the first page about this not being about religion or Christianity etc.
I will also post other web sites if you would like.

They are the seven highest ranking Republican Senators in the U.S. Senate.
I hate to be a butt-in-ski, but I found this quote from the link you just posted to be kind of confusing...
"Every one of them received a scorecard of 100% from Christian Coalition.
That means they voted with Christian Coalition 100% of the time.
How were people representing such an extreme ideological point of view elected to the top positions in the Republican Party?
The leaders of the Republican Party were chosen by their colleagues."
This implies that they were chosen or appointed...but weren't those seven individuals elected officials? Couldn't it be coincidental that they all seem to have similar viewpoints? Just wondering. Thanks for letting me ask.

I would imagine that it could be coincidental...I'm not an expert on this matter but there are a lot of people that are concerned about this. Read on, there's a lot to this web site. I'll post others.

I'm sorry, I'll read the site later, I'm heading to bed, but after a brief look at the front page what does this have to do at all with above last couple of comments, are you changing the subject and trying to bash certain groups of people....
Maybe we can start to apease to the Muslims and the Middle east in general by having some executions?
We can sytimatically Execute all gays and lesbians, all jews, Idians, Christian SCientists and Catholics (there might be hope for conversion to Islam for some of the other christian churches). Then we can start with the immoral people in hollywood.
I mean we gotta kill everyone in hollywood to make em happy over there, hollywood is why 90% of Muslims who hate us and have never even met an American hate us (CNN poll I think that they tried to hide).
We also can't leave out all members of ACLU & NAACP, because, well they hate all religioun.
Should I go on and spit out stupid shit in hopes you'll make the connection to reality (I don't mean that too harshly). I undertand the left has good intensions, but I could give a rats ass about your intensions if it kills us all!

Why don't you start by reading the Koran. You'll find that the crap they spew on CNN about how loving and non-violent it is, is complete and utter crap.
Then start reading the press from Muslim based papers and news media. Actualy find out what they say and what their goals are.
LEARN HISTORY. Why is it that I'm so young, yet I seem to be able to piece together why things are they way they are right know better than most of you who are 15 years my senior? Now granted I'm a history, military & political buff, but some of this stuff is so common sensical (sp?) that it should hit youp like a brick wall!

i don't see how this is anything more than a cultural difference between yourself and the state of texas...it's not a secret that conservatives make up a majority of the south. many conservatives are also christians or claim to be. if the constituency is going to elect people from the religious right, why would this surprise you? on the other side san francisco was/is? marrying gay couples. something that you most definitely would not find in a majority of southern states. referencing an article about the religious right in texas seems like old news. that's how it's always been

but isn't it it OK to elect nuts and extremists as long as they are liberal? When a liberal breaks the law its social protest, when a conservative speaks, he is nothing but a lying scumbag and should be removed from office.
If he's a black conservative then he isn't black enough, if it's a hispanic consevative then he is turning his back on his roots or just too stupid to know any better. I wish the media would actualy cover the racism and biggotry from the left.
Don't worry, the left is working hard at making being religious crime!

No, not trying to change the subject or spew hate, but answering Achiral about something that was said yesterday.
Before you go to bed, let me ask you what your answer is to the current problems in the middle east? Are you advocating genocide of all you consider to be our enemies? I eagerly await your youthful but insightful analysis.

Well this is a hard question to answer in any short form, so I apoligize ahead for obvious short comings.
Genocide is a childish responce and I'm sure you think thats what we all want to do, bvut your wrong.
...........
I've delete this, there is absolutly no way I can write a responce to this in ANY short manor... Maybe I will write an artical up and post it this weekend if I have time. There is just way too much to go over and I can't give you all a history lesson and a lesson on war in once even medium size post...
I will say this, the "peacfull" way of solving the terrorism problems will do nothing but kill more people. The same goes for "police" action. We need to actualy kill these people. Harsh yes, but reality!

Are you forgetting a little detail like the Marshall Plan ... I do think our rebuiling Germany into a top-flight economy has a little something to do with their latter-day friendship with us.
BTW: you can add the firebombing of Dresden to the list of atrocities commmitted by the USA/Allies ... not only was the goal the destruction of the entire civilian infrastructure and terrorizing or extermination of the (civilian) populace, but the wanton destruction of historical buildings and artwork (none of which had any strategic military importance) constitutes a "crime against humanity" all by itself. |
