Ok, Ok. I'm looking at buying my first DSLR and the decision is getting tough and aggravating for me. Been just looking at the sony and the canon but found this olympus this morning and now i'm really confused. Just looking for people opinions.

Canon Digital rebel XS kit with 18-55 lens 485.00

Olympus E-510 and 14-42mm and 40-150 Zuiko Lenses 499.00

Sony A200 with 18-70 lens 399.00

I was seriously looking at the E-510 myself (I really liked the way it fit my hands and everything seemed to be where my finger naturally fell) and if I had not run into my Rebel at such a good price, I would likely have gone with the Olympus. Nice deal with that two lens kit. I would say go with the Olympus, but there are some other things to be considered.

Accessories and the aftermarket in general support the Canon product with more choices, but I don't know anyone who has an Olympus in that series (E-410 through 520) that is not very happy with it.

The Olympus and the Sony both have in-body stabilization. So any lens you put on it is stabilized. Stabilized lenses for the Canon will add expense to your lens purchases. There will be arguments back and forth about whether lens or body IS is superior.

The Sony can use legacy Minolta lenses, so you have a large aftermarket for it. Olympus uses the more recent four-thirds lens system, which has a smaller selection. (Panasonic also uses this lens system)

The 3 you mention are all good cameras. What it will end up coming down to, is what feels best in your hands. My advice and I am sure alot of others will say this too. Go to the camera store and check them out first hand. Get a feel for each camera.

Check the quality of the kit lens also. I am a long time, fanatically loyal Olympus customer but I DON't like the 14-42 zoom lens at all. The 14-54 is worlds better.

Keep an eye on Amazon as a good source of stuff. I bought a used 430EX flash recently through Amazon for only $165. Actually it was new, but had to be listed as used. It still had the cellophane on it and the accessories bits were still in wrappers.

You might want to hold off on the wide angle for a bit. I bought the same kit and I thought I'd get a wide angle down the road but I was quite surprised at how wide the 18mm was on an 1.6x sensor. If I do look for a wide lens it will be in the 15-25 range more than likely.

Anyway, Have fun with it, I know I do.
