Hey guys, after about 4 years I finally uploaded a new website at www.larus.is. It´s in Icelandic so most of you won´t understand it but it´s mostly about the pictures anyway. That site is mainly to promote my portrait/kids/wedding photography, standard portraiture stuff and I will be opening another, "sister" site, www.lallisig.is sometime during the weekend. There I will post stuff more in line for ad firms or other clients.

Not really asking for opinions or critique on the web, I really like the site like it is, I am mainly just plugging the site to get some traffic. The guy who designed it for me is a really cool guy, based in Iceland but of course is fluent in english like most of us here and if anybody likes the site they might want to contact him, considering the low currency value of the icelandic krona these days, you might just make a good deal if you want your own website.

www.mango.is is his site.

Excellent site Larus! Looks like a million bucks. I did know that the Icelandic language is the closest to the original old Norwegian. But I had no idea that I was going to be able to read it since it sounds very different when listening to someone speaking. I was able to understand almost everything in the "um mig" section. Cool! :)

cool site larus. I know you don't want any feedback about the site but I have to say just one thing.

I understand Spanish, French, German, but this my friend looks like your cat walked across the keyboard

hahaha, the funny thing about this is you look at it and just read it like we read English where as we look at it and can't even begin to understand how pronounce it.

It's beautiful, and inspirational too. The images are gorgeous, of course, and I really like the web design as well.

Lalli, hún er góð hjá þér, myndirnar eðall... skoðað þessa síðu í fyrra örugglega og þá einmitt vantaði hana upplyftingu.....

Since i had to comment on his site in our own language, here you have the....
English Version :

Lalli, The site is great, and the photos even better.... i looked into this domain last year, and i tought it needed a little make over...

Edit: On a second tought it might have been lallisig.is that i looked at for a year or two....

Make an English version, too.

From what I see you have a smaller number, but excellent variety, of the work youâve done. After all Quality is better then Quantity, in most cases. Nice large photos, load a little slow. Remember .gif are the fastest in loading but canât be automatically resized as a .jpg file type, and may have less colorspace.

Good thing pictures speak in an international language, I only know English and Hungarian.I think Kr is for Kroner? I learned new Icelandic words from your website.

BRÃÃKAUP = BRIDAL/WEDDING, PORTRET = PORTRAIT, BÃRN = CHILDREN, VERÃSKRà = PRICELIST, UM MIG = ABOUT ME/MY BIO, Ãg heiti Lárus Sigurðarson og er 31 árs gamall ljósmyndari, búsettur í Reykjavík. = I am
Lárus Sigurðarson a 31 year old guy living in Reykjavik. â Translation by me, John Erdövégi

Well done, and your photography really makes it stand out, Lárus.

A couple of comments (since you said you weren't looking for any):

- Consider one larger (first or second tier) photo of a man in the portrait page to balance all the photos of women.
- I know you don't need an English version, but I'm curious to read the "UM MIG" section.
- Be sure to provide a link from your new site to the "sister site" when it is ready.

Cheers,
- Larry in NYC

Neeeh, considering 95% of the people who hire me for this type of photography are women, it is very intentional that there are only a handful of men on this site. Also .gif? You serious? No way, uglier gradients and color depths, this is a site based in Iceland and the only ones who have complained it´s slow are not on this Island, but thx for asking.

Not going to bother with english versions either, these sites are for the Icelandic market, if the odd foreigner wants to hire me for a job and loses interest because of it, so be it, I would hope they would just contact me anyway.

Thx for the translation John Erdövégi, you were close but it´s "My name is Lárus Sigurðarson, I am 31 years old and am a photographer living in Reykjavík."

Anyway will bump this thread when the other site comes online :)

Yeah, I know what you mean, it´s too similar, more than what you would think. Of course I lived in Sweden and speak swedish fluently and also have spent a few months at Stavanger so norwegian is also no problem. Those bloody Finns though, they make no sense at all, sound like they are drunk all the time :)

You might have a point there! Finnish is definitely not the easiest language to learn. Hyvää vikkonloppua!

Nah, I didn't mean for business, I meant for the pleasure of your English-speaking DPC fans. :-)

Very well done, and more beautiful photography.
I noticed that once I click on a link (FÃLK MATUR LANDSLAG ANNAÃ UM MIG), the color changes to match the background and afterwards is only visible on rollover. Is that intentional?

Your 'Landslags' are so much different from ours... hehehe

Not here either [in IE, FF or Safari(windoze) - all on Vista 64bit]... The splash screen has non of the categories selected as you would expect but once you pick one and it's fine and highlights the right category - go back to home they all are un-selected again.

I wanted a new profile shot for www.lallisig.is so I had this taken of me and liked it so much that after 5 years I finally changed my profile picture here at DPC, used to be me sucking on my son´s pacifier.

I can't read a word of your language, but your photography speaks universal. Outstanding..
