Can anyone explain me why was chosen this "Rust" theme ??? I do not see much ado about this idea within the "Challenge suggestions"... And we've already had plenty of old and rusted stuff within the "Wheels" challenge... There are so many interesting ideas within the Challenge Suggestions and I guess it might be very useful to have some kind of democratic election of a challenge theme from time to time (not every 4 yrs hopefully)

Challenge Details:
Rusty objects can lead to engaging photographs. Your challenge is to find something rusted, and then look for ways to compose an interesting picture around it.

hopfully people will try to make their pictures interesting and gain a higher score than use just a plain (but nice looking wheel) time will tell

anything's better than serendipity :) I think that was the most mis-understood challenge ever. At least rust isn't subject to viewer interpretation.

I wonder how many people write "technically thats copper so its not Iron Oxide therefore not rust"

[ironically]: ok. You convinced me. Now I trust the rust. hehe....

Oh man, I'm confused too! Is it "rust" considered to be just iron oxide? would aluminum oxide be acceptable or would it get voted down? Will scaly rust be better than a light film of rust? Will a rusted-through object be voted higher? =)

Any of various powdery or scaly reddish-brown or reddish-yellow hydrated ferric oxides formed on iron and iron-containing materials by low-temperature oxidation in the presence of water.

Any of various metallic coatings, especially oxides, formed by corrosion.

A stain or coating resembling iron rust.

Deterioration, as of ability, resulting from inactivity or neglect.

A strong brown.

So dictionary.com suggests that any corroded metal is rust

Plenty of rust where I live everything is rusty, I guess you remember that, maybe is time to visit your old home :) For one I have the same feeling as I had when I first saw the "chaos" challenge, that a Romanian must win that, and I did. I hope I do it again, I just came home with 100 perfect rusty objects on my memory stick, so hard to choose. If only I could take a pic of Romania from satelite, I'm sure it looks rusty :D Haha

Why not having photos "subject to viewer interpretation" ??? C'mon guys... after all this is the fun part. For example I do not want to take a pic of an old rusted mettalic piece of whatever because I can see that "rusted"-big-idea in a zillion of other things: an old piece of wood, of paper, a cork, a shell, a leaf, a dusk etc. etc. Do we have to be that "plain" in order to get high scores ?! C'mon let's be a little bit more poetic otherwise this dpc turns in a dull "representation" place...

Aluminum oxidizes to be corroded, copper gets tarnished, only iron and steel (which has iron in it) rust.

What about a romanian living in china?
Rusty, chaotic mind in a proper environment! :)

Living in Germany has it's down side. I went out to look for rusty objects, and after 1/2 an hour I got 2 objects, both not suitable. Sometimes everything is too perfect.

It sounds like we may need a metallurgy degree in order to both take the photo and vote on it. eeep!

Thought about taking a picture of a sack of potatoes and titling it, "Ooops I thought it was a Russett challenge"
