I want to hook my computer up to my camera
so when I take a picture I can see it instantly on my screen
just like it pops up on the LCD on the camera.
is there a software out that works like that?
Thanks for any info! |

Doesn't the software that came with your camera do that? Obviously I have a Canon, but I am pretty sure Nikon has the same type of software. I could be wrong so someone with a Nikon will have to chime in.

By the way, it is called "tethered shooting", in case it helps your search for the solution.
ETA: Can't be of any more use, since I'm in the same Canon boat. I can only assume that Nikon supplies such software, too. Check out whatever came with your camera.

Do you have a Mac or a Windows? |

I have a mac for when it rains and windows for letting the light in. What do you have? |

I just have windows....when it rains I get very wet indeed. :(
I was gonna say, if you have a mac, Automator has a function that will tell your camera to take a picture, and it downloads it...less bulky than installing a whole new program.

Have a look here at diyphotobits.
Nice little tool. You can control camera settings from your PC , release the shutter and have the image automatically transferred to your PC.
I also have lightroom set up to import automatically after transfer, so then I can see histogram etc.
I tested it with my D70 on Xp and Vista and got it working on both.
