I have just ordered a Nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6G VR lens and I am considering buying an AIS TC14A teleconverter to go with it. Can anybody tell me if this TC and lens combination is useable please?

Many thanks

I don't have the answer, sorry, but wanted to bump this before it fell off the bottom of the page.

Because of the fact that the majority of users are in N. America, and the time difference to you Aussies, you might find that responses are slow. They're not ignoring you, they're just sleeping! :)

if you don't mind manual focus / manual exposure
looks recessed , so it should mechanically work
But be very dark.....
will also turn the lens into a ~f/6-f8 ... likely the electronic focus indicator will not work
edit : i believe that the manual for the 70-300 indicates teleconverters are not recommended

Aha. Many thanks. That's save me a few quid then. I'm not sure I'm Australian though. I've been told I sound a bit like one but I'm fairly sure I'm British.

Thanks all.

Yeah, sorry, was just coming back to correct that one, but the time thing's still kind of applicable :)

ralph is right about that. I have a couple of Vivitar tc's which work fine with my older lenses, and the D series lenses, but aperture must be physically set using the aperture ring on the lenses in order to use the tc's.
I have seen ads for some newer tc's (14 E, 17 E, and 20 E,) with the electrical contacts in them to allow them to be used with the AF series lenses.
Here is a link that may help you if you are shopping for lenses. I have collected a nice batch of Nikkor/Nikon lenses, and have found this photographers guide to be very accurate in rating them as they perform in actual day to day shooting conditions.
Bjorn Rorslett's Lens Page
Read from the top of the page down, and you will understand how the ratings were derived.
