We have a lot of excellent wildlife photographers here and it is also a topic that most people should be able to find something for I imagine.

By making it "wildlife" rather than "animals" it will hopefully steer away from too many pet shots and wildlife means, to me at least, animal life rather than plant. It covers though anything from insects to primates, so is fairly far reaching.

(This may be wildlife revisited - interweb is playing up so I can't check right now).

I agree, I would like to see that kind of a challenge come around. How about an open challenge so that I can do it too? hehe

Great idea. I was thinking of suggesting "Wild Birds in Flight" which is just a subset of your suggestion.

Yup, would open it up to the bird people, the zoo people, the macro people and we might get some spider/insect shots. Even the fish people can join in :)

The flower people can still enter, they just need to have a bee in the shot ;)

Ought to have a seperate Zoo challenge. The exotic animals in the zoo have an advantage over normal wild animals. They're generally well groomed and taken care of also.

If there was a wildlife challenge it would need to classify what wildlife is. There are a lot of people who do not class zoo animals as wildlife even if you wouldnt keep them as pets. Otherwise anything that could look like it was taken in a zoo would be classed as 'not meeting the challenge' that we all know voters hate saying.

I would suggest that trying to exclude zoo images would be near impossible.

Instead how about wording the description to request

...images of wildlife that show or give the impression of animals in a natural environment.
