so i recently purchased a macbook pro. so far its working wonderfully, mostly been using lightroom for editing. the only problem i'm having is viewing from mac to pc. whenever i edit my photos on my mac, then upload to the web for my website, all the photos look fine on my mac but if viewed on any pc, they are all extremely over saturated. (website here, //www.meagantphoto.com, you'll notice if you are on a pc, they are ALL oversaturated) i've been told i need to calibrate my monitor, and i'm not sure how to do that, or if that will fix it.
any advice would be fantastic! |

You can do a rough calibration on your mac by going to System Preferences, open Displays, click the Colour tab and then calibrate. Follow the instructions in there to help calibrate your screen.
I don't think it will give you as accurate results as a proper hardware calibration tool but it will at least get you on the right track to see if calibration is your problem.
I've never really found moving my pictures between the Mac and PC to be a problem, though when I see them on my TV they are very vivid and saturated.

What colour profile is used for the images? With firefox (with colour management enabled) they look fine. With IE 7 (colour management off) they are more saturated.
It could just be a colour profile issue. Make sure they're in sRGB so even browsers where colour management is off will show the colours properly.

I am on a mac, but they look fine to me. I would agree with the previous poster by saying check what profile you are using. sRGB is the best for web so it will look better in all browsers. Macs and PCs generally are set up with different gamma settings. This could make a difference as well. Also calibrating your monitor should help, but remember most people do not have their monitors well calibrated so you are at the mercy of that.

| I'm on a Mac as well. The images do look very saturated to my senses in both Safari and Firefox. In a side-by-side comparison, Firefox appears to display a fine degree more saturation than Safari. |

PC user here, semi-calibrated Dell CRT, they appear over saturated to me. I used Firefox and also Faststone Image Viewer to view the images.
One thing to note, Mac's and PC's use different Gamma standards, 2.2 and 1.4 1.8 I think, but I don't know how that or if that would affect this. It might make the mid-range colors appear darker or lighter.
